You don't have to be the next million dollar music pop star to make money with your music. Whether you are a solo music artist, have a band, want to write for film, or even write string quartets, there are many venues available to make money off your music. Below are fifty, yes fifty, ways that you can make money with your music!

Sell a Music Album
There are many ways to make money off of a solo, ensemble, or band album. You can sell an album at concerts, gigs, coffee shops, church bookstores, libraries, university bookstores, or local theaters. If you want to sell your album online, there are hundreds of options, from CD Baby and Lulu to Amazon and i-Tunes. You can even opt to give away free downloads of your album to gain publicity through free download sites like Amie Street or through music promotional sites like Reverbnation. Find local businesses which can use music like yours. You can offer to let them use the music in their business in exchange for selling your music. For example, if you write children's songs, you can sell them to schools, preschools, day care centers, and children's art museums. If you write jazz, the local coffeeshop or bookstore may be ideal, while tattoo shops might appreciate music like death metal and rock. Nursing homes may appreciate original classical music or jazz standards. Explore and you may find that you have more options than you know what to do with!

Sell a Music Single
The beauty behind selling a music single is that you can sell the single as a ringtone or even use it as a promotional download to sell concert tickets. Put together a few good songs for a demo CD if you don't have the time or money to put together a full music album. The beauty of the internet is that you don't really have to have a full fifty minutes to make money. A handful of good singles can easily gross more than a full album of mediocre music. You can sell the singles on CD Baby, i-Tunes, Amazon, and Reverbnation.

Sell Royalty Free Music
Let's say you and your band have a bunch of tracks that you have mixed down but don't have any use for, or you might have dozens, even hundreds, of music tracks that you don't know what to do with. Upload the music tracks to websites like Tradebit and you can make money by selling royalty-free music. When you sell music royalty-free, it means that you only get a one-time payment for a song or track for someone to use. In other words, let's say you mixed down a sappy string track that you decided not to use as background for your latest mix. You can then sell this track to websites which cater to television studios, websites, independent filmmakers, web movie directors, podcasters, videocasters, djs, veejays, and other musicians. While I wouldn't recommend selling tracks that you have spent mondo amounts of time on, this is a great way to earn cash for those less-than-stellar music tracks.

Sell Music Merchandise
Many bands and musicians nowadays find that they make more money selling music merchandise (or music merch) than by selling albums. What can you possibly sell? Create a logo for yourself or band (or even just some cool graphics that you used for the posters or music programs), and then sell them on buttons, stickers, bumper stickers, t-shirts, pet clothing, hats, scarves, stationary, mugs, pencils, and magnets. If you don't want to splurge the cash needed to print up 100 t-shirts, you can direct music fans to websites like Cafepress, Zazzle, or even Deviant Art, which allow you to upload original artwork to sell on various types of products ranging from clothing to postcards to even skateboards. You can sell music scores and photo books through online self-publishers like Lulu or Amazon's Createspace.

Blogging and Writing
As crazy as it sounds, you can making money writing about music. You can write music reviews, concert reviews, promotional items, personal artistic journeys, or even DIY articles like "How to mix an album". Sites like Associated Content and Elance are always looking for music industry experts who can share their knowledge or even write promotional items for music products and artists. If you very industrious and can write novels, take great photographs, create awesome music designs, or even create scores, you can find ways to publish them and make money through self-publishers and traditional publishers.

Social Networking
Finally, any serious musician today, whether they are a classical musician, rock guitarist, pop singer, or jazz pianist needs to master social networking. Sites like My Space and Facebook offer ways to promote music through profile pages while LinkedIn connects music industry professionals and Twitter, well, just Twitters away. Newer networking sites are popping up each day, so do your best to get a music profile up on all of them.

In the end, only dedication and good work will make you money, but with these fifty-plus ways to make money in today's internet-driven market, any artist can earn cash through their music.
